Setting Up Security Checks
Step 1: Get Your API Keys
For VirusTotal:
- Sign up at
virustotal.com(free) - Go to your profile page
- Copy your API key
Free tier allows 4 requests/minute, 500/day
For Google Safe Browsing:
- Go to Google Cloud Console
- Create or select a project
- Enable the "Safe Browsing API"
- Create an API key under Credentials
Free tier allows 10,000 requests/day
Step 2: Configure API Keys in WebMon
- Go to your Dashboard
- Click "Security API Settings"
- Enter your VirusTotal and/or Google Safe Browsing API keys
- Save settings
Step 3: Enable Security Checks on Monitors
- Edit any monitor
- Find the "Security Checks" section
- Enable VirusTotal and/or Safe Browsing
- Save the monitor
Viewing Security Results
Security check results appear on each monitor's detail page in the "Security Status" card. You can:
- See the current status (Safe, Suspicious, or Malicious)
- View when the last check was performed
- Run a manual check with the "Check Now" button
- See detailed detection information
Understanding Status Results
- Safe (Green): No threats detected
- Suspicious (Yellow): Minor concerns flagged
- Malicious (Red): Active threats detected - investigate immediately
Security Alerts
When threats are detected, you'll receive an email alert with details about the threat type and recommended actions.
